Epsilon ry Beer Pong Rules
Written based on the beer pong rules of Ynnä ry
Initial Setup
The cups are placed on the table in a triangular formation starting from the back line and aligned with the centerline.
A predetermined amount of liquid (e.g. water or beer) is poured into the cups.
Ping pong balls are used as game balls, and there are two of them.
The objective of the game is to hit the opponent’s cups with ping pong balls. When a cup is hit, the opponent removes that cup from the formation. The team that runs out of the cups first loses the game.
Choosing the Starting Team
The starting team is decided by a game of rock–paper–scissors between the team captains.
Throwing and Blocking
During a throwing turn, two balls are thrown.
The team may choose whether one or more players throw during a single throwing turn.
Throws must be made with a straight back and both feet touching the floor.
The elbow of the throwing arm must not cross the end of the table (back line) at any point during the throw.
The ball may be thrown overhand or underhand, whichever the player prefers.
A bounced shot may be blocked, but a direct shot may never be blocked.
After the Throw
If one ball lands in a cup, that cup is removed from the formation.
If one ball lands in a cup after bouncing off the table, two cups are removed. The throwing team chooses the second cup to be removed.
If two balls land in different cups, both cups are removed from the formation.
If two balls land in the same cup, three cups are removed from the formation. The throwing team chooses the two additional cups to be removed.
End of the Game
The team that loses all its cups first loses the game.
The team that started second has a redemption opportunity.
At the beginning of the tournament, the organizers set a time limit for matches. If a game is still ongoing when the time limit is reached, the team with more successful hits wins.
In the case of a tie, the game continues in sudden death, with the team that threw second initially having the equalizing throwing opportunity.
Re-racking
During the game, each team may perform one re-rack (with an initial setup of 6 cups) or two re-racks (with an initial setup of 10 cups) to change the opponent’s cup formation.
Re-racking may only be done at the beginning of the team’s own throwing turn and only after the first throwing turn of the game.
The formation must always be arranged so that at least one cup is on the back line, and all cups are touching each other.
Special Rules
By mutual agreement between both teams and a possible referee, rule modifications proposed by one team may be applied to an ongoing or upcoming game. These modified rules apply only for that game. At the request of either team during the game, the rules revert to those stated in this rulebook.
Penalties for Rule Violations
If the rules are violated, the referee has the authority to decide the penalty. If no referee is present, the tournament organizers are contacted.
Common penalties include loss of a throwing turn, removal of one or two cups from the formation, or in extreme cases, removal of a player from the game.
Penalties may be appealed to the tournament organizers, whose decision is final.
